Playground Activity Co-ordinator (Part -Time) – Fixed term Contract

Pay Range: Competitive hourly rate.

The Organisation

At Crann (est. 2014) we provide a range of innovative, family centered services and supports for children, adults and families living with neuro-physical disabilities. Our Model of Care is based on the Ascend at Aspen 2Gen approach. We are the only organisation in the 500 strong Ascend network to utilize this approach for disability and the only Ascend member in Ireland. This 2 Gen approach is our strategic framework.

We provide services and support to over 320 families, in person at the Crann Centre and remotely. Our priorities are to serve and support an increased number of families by maximising our resources while simultaneously using data and evidence to demonstrate the impact of our work. Our accessible Playground and Leisure Area is purpose designed to enable children with disabilities, their siblings , friends and family to play together on a range of accessible equipment and facilities all in a ¼  acre calm, peaceful, unhurried setting . Families access the playground through our booking system. It is open for birthday parties, family celebration and a range of structured play and exercise related events . It features a barbeque and picnic area, a solitude garden and a horticultural therapy space, The playground and leisure space is the first of its kind in Ireland. It is open 7 days.

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: 

To support the Crann Centre to facilitate the success of the Playground & Leisure Area

Work with the management team to design and implement appropriate activities and experiences for our families, supervise the Playground & Leisure Area and provide support with relevant administrative duties.

This is a 6 month part-time position (min. 10 hours per week) – evenings/weekends (depending on requirements of activities).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Playground & Leisure Area:

  • Create a warm and welcoming environment where children and families are greeted by name,
  • Maintain a safe environment for children and families’, ensuring equipment and recreation space are in working order, and being aware of risks and potential threats to safety.
  • Actively engage with families and interact with them in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Create a fun environment that encourages exploration and play by providing opportunities for children to interact with a variety of suitable activities.
  • Document all accidents & incidents appropriately.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families.
  • Follow all Crann policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean & organised outdoor environment by performing daily cleaning duties.

Administrative:

  • Enter and update all visitor information using relevant documents.
  • Monitor online booking system.
  • Support management to maintain volunteer rosters & playground cover in the event of changes/withdrawals.
  • Promote and organise family events in collaboration with The Crann Centre Crann management.
  • Perform additional job-related duties and tasks as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • One or more years of experience working with children/children with disabilities and co-ordinating/facilitating activities/events.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency using computers.
  • Proven commitment to actively engaging with children and families.
  • Fluent English- spoken and written.
  • An interest in play and exercise.

The appointees will be required to complete the Garda vetting process.
