Hello everybody! I’m back with another blog, the year is flying!
Have you ever visited Kerry? Would you like to know more about what Kerry has to offer for families with neuro-physical disabilities?
Crann supports families across Munster and I am so proud to be an active client of Crann from Kerry. I’m always making sure Crann is known about in the Kingdom through social media along with various newspaper articles in Kerry’s Eye and annual interviews with Radio Kerry.
I live in south Kerry, and although I live in a very rural part of the county, the scenery in my local area has attracted a lot of visitors over the years
The Skellig Experience Visitor Centre – A Family Affair
A popular visitor attraction is the Skellig Experience Visitor Centre on Valentia Island, which gives families across Ireland and around the world the opportunity to have a family day out and learn about the history of Skellig Michael, a famous Island on the Iveragh Peninsula. There is a film for families to watch and a follow up quiz for kids to complete, ensuring all family members can benefit from the experience. There is also a gift shop and restaurant which means families can enjoy some food and tasty treats together. All facilities are wheelchair accessible for both manual and motorized wheelchair users.
This visitor attraction promises to be an enjoyable and informative experience for all family members. It’s a very meaningful place for my family and I because it’s where my mom and dad met, and they have been working there since 1992.
The Skellig’s Chocolate Factory
Everyone loves a bit of chocolate! Located on the Skellig Ring, fust off the main Ring of Kerry road is the Skellig Chocolate Factory, an opportunity for families to taste and explore different types of chocolate.
Cracow Park and Playground
Located in Knightstown, also on Valentia Island is a playground which includes a wheelchair accessible roundabout and a very enjoyable wheelchair accessible loop walk, suitable for the whole family!
Derrynane House
A very intersting wheelchair-accessible museum.
Dingle Aquarium
A wheelchair-accessible aquarium with otters, penguins, a beautiful butterfly sanctuary and much more.
Other accessible walkways include the Waterville promenade Killarney national Park, Tralee Bay Wetlands, Tralee town Park and the Dingle promenade
The Kingdom Wheelblasters
A multi-sports club for children who have a physical disability up to the age of 18. It was set up by Tadhg Buckley, who is also on the board at the Crann Centre, along with a few other parents from Kerry. I was a member of the weekly Saturday Morning Club until I reached the age limit and I loved it!
I also went to Ablefest in Killarney this year and met one of my friends from Kerry who is also a client of Crann. there was a silent disco, lots of music and we even got to meet Jake Carter! My friend and I had such a good time. We talked like there was no tomorrow and were the last to leave the venue! Oops!
I would love if you would have a look at one of my previous blogs about using beach wheelchairs in Kerry. I hope to see some members of the rewarding Crann community in Kerry soon.
