Introducing Dietetics at Crann!

Susan Walsh is a CORU registered dietitian and member of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetics Institute

Crann is delighted to be introducing a specialist dietetics clinic, starting April 26th, running monthly. Dietetics at Crann is open to adults and children with a neuro-physical disability, across your whole lifespan.

Access to dietetics services for people with disabilities, and especially children, can be difficult at present, so we are very pleased to be able to bring it to families at Crann.

Dietetics at Crann will be run by Susan Walsh, a CORU registered dietitian with over 20 years’ experience working with children and adults across acute and disability services.

The Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute (INDI) has stated that dietetics can improve your food and fluid consumption, nutrition, bowel patterns and increase immunity, which can result in lower rates of hospitalisation, improved health and wellbeing and a better quality of life.

Feeding difficulties affect 60-90% of children with Cerebral Palsy. Children with Spina Bifida or Muscular Dystrophy can experience a range of nutritional difficulties including undernutrition, problems with eating/drinking and swallowing (EDS) disorders, constipation, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, bone problems and weight gain/obesity among others.

As a dietitian, Susan can guide and support your nutritional choices for good health and help you to identify areas to improve it. These can include:

    • Poor nutritional intake, being underweight, poor growth or poor weight gain
    • Being overweight or obese
    • Constipation
    • Nutritional assessment
    • Advice about supporting good health through diet and nutrition

Adults and children with a neuro-physical disability can be referred through healthcare professionals* (Hospital, GP, PHN, CNDT MDT), but self-referrals are also welcome. To refer email Eimear Daly at

*Please provide your client’s name, DOB, address, the reason for referral and your own contact details as the referrer, highlighting that you have sought consent from the client to share their details with The Crann Centre.
